As some of you may know, the Bukkit project is in a very shaky place right now due to a large disagreement among the developers surrounding some licensing issues, so there is still not a Bukkit 1.8 release. Since our server largely depends on Bukkit to provide a platform for us to add plugins, we have stayed on 1.7 for the time being.

I have been looking into replacements for Bukkit and I believe we will switch to Spigot. We have used Spigot in the past with decent success, and the Spigot project has only improved since then. While Spigot does support Bukkit plugins, some plugins will need to be updated before they will work with 1.8, and it is not clear if or when some plugins will be updated, since many developers have yet to comment on the status of their plugins going forward.

Please note that our worlds are NOT at risk. If our plugin for allowing multiple worlds winds up not working with Spigot, then we can load the worlds with a different plugin with no side effects.

What plugins would you be willing to lose? What server features do you think we absolutely need to have ready in 1.8 before we make the switch? As I mentioned in this thread, we will be switching to a different host soon, so I'd like to make the switch to 1.8 at the same time.

If at all possible mmco not being affected would be my greatest concern as well as that ofmany other players Other than that i think as long as world homesets and inventory are not effected anything else can be worked around and in the end we will have a much nicer server that will be enjoyable to all existing and newcoming players

The migration will likely begin on Wednesday. This is when the server will be temporarily down. Estimated down time is one Earth evening.

I don't know if LogBlock will see an update for Spigot 1.8, but that would be top priority. It saves a lot of time and offers very appealing protection and security to the players. Additionally, it doesn't look like WorldEdit will have an update soon, but I've read that a lot of the same commands have been incorporated in vanilla anyway.

Aside from that, basic teleport and home commands come to mind. And as southpaw mentioned, I imagine a lot of players will be looking for mcmmo, but it doesn't look like there's anything for 1.8 yet either.

I mean, vanilla has really come a long way. Preserving the worlds is really the biggest thing.

If we don't get LogBlock, at the very least I've ensured that Prism is compatible (according to it's devs). For those who don't know what Prism is, it's like LogBlock, but adds support for a ton of extra events and is slightly easier to work with, once you learn the system.

This is why I hate change.
